Offical opening of our new library with the Lord Mayor of Barking & Dagenham

We are delighted to celebrate the grand opening of our beautiful new school library – an exciting addition to Grafton Primary!

It was a privilege to welcome His Worshipful the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Councillor Manzoor Hussain, alongside our Grafton Governors, Mrs Ajaz and Ms Chowdhury, and special guest Ms Natalie Newman, author of Lark the Shark.

Natalie captivated our Reading Ambassadors and pupils from across the school with a reading of her wonderful book, sharing an important message about water pollution and caring for our environment.

Our new library will be open during lunchtimes, giving children more opportunities to discover books, develop a love of reading and enjoy this inspiring space. We also hope to extend access to parents and families after school in the near future.

A huge thank you to our dedicated staff, particularly Ms Prince, Mrs Yasmin and Ms Gamage, for organising the books and creating such an attractive, welcoming environment. Special thanks also to Mrs Jagdev for liaising with contractors throughout the project and helping bring our vision to life.

We look forward to seeing our children making full use of this wonderful space, developing their imagination, curiosity and lifelong love of reading.

Please enjoy the photographs from our special opening event!
