Celebrating Our Rights Respecting Gold Reaccreditation!

We are delighted to share that Grafton Primary School has once again achieved UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools Award at Gold: Rights Respecting level! Following our reaccreditation visit on 9 July 2026, we are incredibly proud that the assessor confirmed we continue to meet the Gold standard.

This wonderful achievement recognises the commitment of our whole school community to ensuring that children’s rights are understood, respected and embedded in every aspect of school life.

Highlights from our Gold reaccreditation visit

During the visit, our assessor, Helen Trivers, met with members of our Senior Leadership Team, staff, governors, parents and carers, as well as children from across the school. Our Year 6 pupils proudly helped lead the school tour, while our Rights Ambassadors and other pupil leaders shared their experiences of being part of a Rights Respecting School.

The assessor was particularly impressed by how confidently our children talked about their rights and the importance of respecting the rights of others. They explained how adults have a responsibility to protect children’s rights and how pupils’ voices help shape decisions at Grafton.

Our Gold visit celebrated many aspects of our work, including:

  • Rights throughout our curriculum: Children explore the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child through assemblies, classroom learning, carefully chosen texts and our weekly Rights Around the World lessons.
  • Pupil voice and leadership: Our School Council and ambassadors help improve school life, share ideas with governors and encourage everyone to feel included and listened to.
  • Inclusion and wellbeing: The assessor recognised our commitment to ensuring every child feels valued and supported, including through our inclusive spaces, personalised support and approaches to positive relationships.
  • Rights in action: Our children are encouraged to make a difference locally and globally through fundraising, environmental projects, campaigning and supporting the rights of others.
  • A shared commitment across our school: Staff, governors and families demonstrated how children’s rights underpin our school values, policies and everyday practice.

We were especially proud to hear the assessor recognise that children’s rights are not simply something we focus on for a special event or a particular week. They are part of the way we teach, learn, care for one another and make decisions every day.

Thank you, Grafton!

We would like to thank our children, staff, governors, parents and carers for their continued support and for helping to make Grafton a community where children’s rights are respected. A special thank you goes to our Rights Ambassadors and all the children and adults who contributed to the reaccreditation visit.

Achieving Gold again is a fantastic recognition of the work we do together. We look forward to continuing our Rights Respecting journey, empowering our children to understand their rights, respect the rights of others and become confident, compassionate global citizens.
