We have come to the end of Autumn 1. The children worked hard, enjoying the different areas we covered, particularly our topic on Pirates. Below are some of the lessons we have covered.
In Art, they made messages in bottles, pirate faces and designed their own parrots, using paints, pastels, crayons and pencils. To have different effects they used their fingers as well as gluing different materials onto their pictures.
We have read three different pirate books (A New Home for a Pirate, The Night Pirates and Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), where we have looked at and compared the characters and settings. We acted and retold a story as well writing a list, instructions and a letter.
Place value, addition and subtraction have been our key areas for Maths. The children are now becoming more confident at knowing the tens and ones in a number, working using a part whole model, and are starting to use the column method for addition and subtraction.
In RE, we learnt about different important people within different religions. We then concentrated on Jesus and how he told stories which were called parables. The ones we learnt about were The Big Picnic, The Lost Coin and The Lost Sheep.
As you can see, the children have been busy.
I hope they have they and you have a lovely break.
