It has been a very exciting week for Year 1! The children were so surprised to see a spaceship had landed in our yard!

In Topic, the children have loved learning about our new topic, ‘Zoom to the Moon’. They have had really enjoyed exploring the village which has been transformed into an outer space experience. We even got a visit from a friendly alien called Beegu in our Literacy lessons!

In Literacy, we have been reading the story ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon.  The children have really enjoyed exploring the book and had so much fun acting out parts of the story. We have also been writing our own versions of the story – they were very impressive!

In Maths, we have been counting and writing numbers to twenty. This week, the children have been focussing on recognising the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens, ones.)

In Science, we have been learning about ‘Weather’. The Children have thoroughly enjoyed becoming meteorologists and collecting our own weather data about our local area. The children have also loved using the weather station to gather weather information.

In Art, we have been creating a picture of the moon and the sun with warm and cold colours inspired by the tale of The Moon and the Sun written by Yoyo Hsu.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
