New News Story
Friday 30th November 2018
We've had a busy week in Year 1! We have continued learning about our new Topic ‘Homes and Buildings’. Each class has been learning about a different type of home:
- Fox – Houseboat
- Squirrel – Igloo
- Hedgehog – Tent
- Badger- Caravan
We have been investigating and exploring different materials we would need to build this home. Depending on the home chosen, the children have really enjoyed carrying out tests including floating/sinking, waterproof, balancing, materials to keep us warm etc. We have also learned about different styles of this home and where we would see a home like this.
In Maths, we have been learning about capacity. We started off using cubes to see how much something could hold. We then used water to compare the capacity of containers. We decided if they held more, less or the same amount of water and then ordered them from biggest capacity to smallest capacity.
In Science, we have learned how to describe the weather in winter and how it affects us.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
