reception News 22/3/19
It has been a very productive and busy week for our reception children here at Grafton.
This week in literacy we have been talking about different festivals and religions and we read non-fiction books explaining how people around the world celebrate different things.
We have been learning about capacity in reception and the children have had the opportunity to use everyday language to talk about capacity and to compare quantities and objects to solve problems.
Phonics – we are continuing to follow the Letters and Sounds programme Phase 3.
This week we’ve learnt these sounds: ’z’ and ‘zz’. Help your child to think of and write words beginning or having these sounds in them.
Also we are learning to read and write new high frequency words.
This week we looked at these HFWS: come, back, so
Reading – DO please hear your child read / discuss the book with them as often as possible and record in their reading record book so that they can continue to make progress.
PE-a quick reminder-children have started their PE lessons so please remember to send your child’s PE kit in school if you haven’t done so yet.
Parents drop-in sessions !!!
Reception team would like to thank all the parents who attended our drop in sessions this week. As ever please feel free to come and speak to your child’s teacher and we will support you in any way we can!
At home you can support your child’s progress by:
Talking to your child every night about their school day and learning.
Reading every night and signing their reading logs.
Ensuring they complete their own homework and draw their own pictures.
Reinforcing and learning the high frequency words and tricky words.
Encouraging your child to write independently using the sounds they can hear.
Ensuring your child is brought to school and collected ON TIME. It is very important to establish a good routine. Children can miss out on vital learning opportunities and can possibly become upset if they are not brought and collected on time.
Have a lovely weekend!
