Reception’s Newsletter -wb 25th February 2019
We hope you all had an enjoyable and restful half term break.
We have another exciting half term ahead of us in Early Years.
We are just a short time away from the start of Spring, thank goodness.
Spring is our favourite time of year in school—full of freshness and new beginnings. Hurrah!
Literacy-We are starting this half term with the book “Kipper’s Birthday’’. This a beautifully illustrated story about celebrations and encourages children to talk about how they celebrate important things in their lives.
Mathematics-We have been learning about capacity in reception and the children have had the opportunity to use everyday language to talk about capacity and to compare quantities and objects to solve problems.
Phonics – we are continuing to follow the Letters and Sounds programme Phase 3. We will learn the final single letter phonemes and move onto digraphs – where two letters make up one sound e.g. sh/th/ch/ee/oo etc. Also we will be learning to read and write new high frequency words. It would be worth having these up at home for now– him, his, get.
Reading – DO please hear your child read / discuss the book with them as often as possible and record in their reading record book so that they can continue to make progress. Children will also be doing Guided Reading in small groups so please make sure their reading record with both books are in school every day.
PE-A quick reminder-children are going to start their PE lessons next week so please remember to send your child’s PE kit in school after the holiday.
