Dear parents and carers,
Last week (w/c 02/03/2020) the children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite character from their favourite story. Children really enjoyed talking about their costume and talked about why they enjoy their book.
This week we are starting to learn about plants and looking at the change in season. In Literacy we are reading the book 'The Tiny seed' by Eric Carle. Children will have a chance to look at different seeds and flowers and will also try growing cress in class. We will also be learning about the life cycle of a plant.
We wil also be visiting Valence park next week to look at all the wonderful flowers in the herb garden Children will have a chance to explore and ask questions about what flowers they can see growing. They are very excited!
In Maths we are looking at the numbers 16,17 and 18. Children are learning how to use a number line to add and subtract. They are also using the number line to find one less/more than a given number. Please try counting with your child from 0-20 and playing a game by asking them what is one more/less.
In phonics, we have been learning the trigraph 'igh' and the digraph 'oa'. Play a game with your child and ask them if they can think of any words that have those sounds in e.g. high/goat.
Reception had a chance to work with Bow Arts which is a Arts education charity. Children listened to a traditonal tale form around the country and then had a chance to make a picture of the chracters with different coloured shapes. Some of the childrens art work will be displayed as a mural in the school library. The children are looking forward to seeing their work displayed on the wall for everyone to see.
Children have also been partaking in P.E. Most children can get dressed independently, however the odd few still need alot of help. Please encourage your child to take their colthes off the right way round and get dressed independently.
