Welcome back Year 5 - we hope you enjoyed a restful half term break.
This week in Literacy we have started to read the new text 'The Highway Man'. In class, we have discussed what a highwayman was and have noted that the poem is set over 100 years ago. We have started to analyse and make inferences about this thrilling poem, whilst making predictions about what might happen.
In Maths we have been learning about fractions this week. Children have begun to order and compare fractions with different denominators and are learning to add and subtract fractions with different denominators.
In Science we have continued with our topic of Earth and Space. The children have been learning about the effects of the Earth's rotation. Children have been able to explain why the Sun appears to move across the sky and explain how night changes to day and back.
In Topic, we have begun our new Geography unit about the United Kingdom. Children have shared what they already know about the U.K and have thought about what they would like to find out during this unit.
We would like to thank all parents and carers who attended the Meet the Teacher Evening on Thursday. We hope you enjoyed looking at some of the wonderful work the children have produced this year and hearing about their positive behaviour.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
The Year 5 Team
