We have all been very busy this week in year 3. In English, we have started learning about the features of reports. Children analysed different examples of reports and discussed what reports have in common. We also found out that certain reports are written in the present tense, while historical reports are always written in the past tense.
In Maths, children have been applying their knowledge of multiplication and division to solving word problems. We found some problems a bit tricky, however we also realised that knowing our times tables can help us solve them.
In Science, children have learnt how to change the size of a shadow. First they predicted what will happen to the size of a shadow when the light source or the object making the shadow is moved. After the class investigation, they came up with their own conclusions.
This week we have celebrated Safer Internet Day. We had lots of interesting discussions in our classes about how to stay safe online. Children also learnt that information we read online is not always reliable. We designed our own posters to show the ways of avoiding fake news. For example, we said that asking an expert in a specific area of knowledge could help us check if the news is accurate.
On Friday we celebrated ‘Health Heroes Day.’ During the day we learnt about the work of real life ‘Health Heroes.’ These ‘Health Heroes’ do their best to help people who are less fortunate than us by improving their health and fighting poverty. To show our appreciation and admiration for their valuable work, we decorated our own masks which we wore on the day. We hope that all the amazing things that ‘Health Heroes’ do will continue in their communities around the world.
We would like to wish all the children and their Parents/Carers a very relaxing half term. Enjoy yourselves but make sure you stay safe.
