Week 2 17.1.2020
Our second week back has been another great week for everyone.
In Literacy, we have continued reading The Fib and produced a number of good pieces of writing from it. A prediction, advice to a character and possible endings to the story. The children have been using drama to explore the characters and what might happen next.
In Maths, we have been tackling BODMAS and negative numbers. BODMAS refers to the order of operations and the classes have been learning how to calculate some really tricky maths. We have also been looking at negative numbers and linking this to temperature, lifts and our back accounts.
In Science, the children have been creating their own Curious Creatures by thinking about the different characteristics that animals have. There have been some really interesting creatures being created!
In our Geography lessons we have been learning about the two polar regions, with a focus on the weather. The children have been learning about why these places are so cold and writing their own weather reports.
We would like to remind everyone about a few things coming up for Year 6. Parents’ Evening is being held on the 12th and 13th of February. Booking your time is done via the Parent Evening App. Please speak to the school office if you have any queries. The Thriftwood trip in June is also on the same app. A number of spaces are still available for anyone who wishes to go.
We are also running a number of booster groups before and after school. These are very beneficial for the children so we would ask that you encourage your child to attend. Please speak to a member of the Y6 team to you have any queries regarding these.
Last week, Mr Farquhar ran a Parent Workshop around Maths and how to help your child with maths and SATs. The PowerPoint is available at the following link
