Week 2 in Year 6
Hello everyone. We hope you are all keeping well. It has been a good week in Year 6. Not only have the children been working extremely hard in all lessons, the year group has enjoyed a very successful week of sport.
On Tuesday, 18 children took part in the Barking & Dagenham School Sportshall Athletic competition. We went up against 8 other schools in various events including running, throwing and jumping. The team gave their all and, after 16 events and all of the points added up, we found out that we had finished in 2nd place. We were just 14 points behind the winners. It was a remarkable effort and the children did really well.
On Thursday we took 2 teams to the Borough basketball tournament and once again the boys and girls of Grafton did themselves proud. The 'Matadors' only lost 1 group game and were impressive against some very good (and very big) players. Our other team, The Panthers' did really well in their group games; winning all 4 of them. In the semi finals we squared up against St. Theresa's and we thoroughly outplayed them to get into the final. There, despite our best efforts, we were unable to keep up with St. Theresa's and unfortunately lost. However, the team wasn't too downbeat and celebrated their silver medals; a great achievement.
Back in school, we started looking at some war poetry and have been looking at creating our own. Some of the final pieces are excellent and the children have been using some wonderful language. In Maths, we have been studying coordinates and looking at translation and reflection in the 4 quadrants. Our focus in Computing is our PowerPoint presentations on WW2 leaders and the children have been working really hard on making these engaging.
Have a great weekend
