Friday 1st November
Welcome back Year 6! We hope that everyone had a lovely break and we are looking forward to another exciting half term.
Our first week back has definitely been exciting. On Monday and Tuesday we have had Britain at War Workshops. The children were able to really immerse themselves in what WW2 would have been like for the young. They had the chance to dress up as evacuees as well as learning more about rationing and shopping. The highlight of the workshop was when the children got to experience what an air raid would have been like. It was a very good workshop and the children had a great time.
In Literacy, we have been looking at writing telegrams from the viewpoint of an injured solider. We made our own telegrams and the standard of work was very good. We have displayed a number of them in the Y6 corridor.
In Maths we took out first look at fractions; an area that many children (and adults) find a challenge! However, we have been really impressed with the level of effort put in by all and the classes are now much more confident about adding and subtracting fractions. We will be revisiting fractions again this year.
In Science, we have started our new topic; The Human Body. We wil be studying the various systems contained within our bodies-starting off with the circulatory system. This is always an interesting topic and there has been plenty of questions already.
Word of the Week: Each week we will be having a 'word of the week' These words are ones that the children wouldn't usually know or use. Maybe you could ask your child on a Monday what their new word is and , more importantly, what it means! This week's word is myriad.
Thriftwood- Just a reminder that the Thriftwood Trip has gone live on the Parent App. For now, we are just asking for parents to indicate if their child is interested in the trip. There is more information, as well as payment amounts and dates etc, online.
Have a great weekend
