This week in English we were excited to start our brand new text 'How to Train Your Dragon' by Cressida Cowell. We started by looking at the front cover and blurb to see if we could gather any clues to what this book might be about. A few children had seen the film adaptation and we discussed how although some films are based on books, sometimes books can have more detail.

We then were introduced to the main character called Hiccup and the rest of the novices of the Hairy Hooligan Tribe. They were given a initiation test to steal a sleeping dragon! At this point of the story, we planned and wrote a diary entry from Hiccup's point of view about his thoughts and feelings of the initiation test. The children look forward to continuing our story next week.

In maths this week we had more opportunities to work out addition and subtraction calculations using written methods. Using our addition and subtraction knowledge we then answered word problems and reasoning questions.

Next week we will be going on a trip to Valence House to find out more about Dagenham's local history. If you have any questions regarding the trip, please ask your class teacher.
