In English this week we went on an adventure with the Dish and the Spoon and oh boy was it one to remember. The story focused on the ups and downs of living life in the fast lane and dealing with the aftermath of making some very bad decisions. The children were able to identify the dilemmas and issues that the characters faced and discussed possible solutions.
During maths we continued to develop our mental addition and subtraction methods. It was interesting to share and discuss the different mental methods we could use to work out a range of sums. The children then moved on to solving one and 2-step word problems. It was important to be able to understand what the questions were asking us and then figuring out what operation (+ or - or possibly both) we needed to use to find the answers. This is an area of maths we will continue to work on as it needs lots more practise.
We started planning our science investigation in science this week by looking at fair testing. We discussed how we could keep a test fair and why it was important to do so. Next week we will be setting up our investigation and recording our results.
In history we looked at old photographs as a source of historical evidence to describe some of the main features of Dagenham Village in the early 20th century.
After a busy week, have a good weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday 28th January 2020.
