This week in maths we learnt more about place value. We looked at 4 digit numbers and looked at how each digit has it's own value/place. We were able to then round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. Later on in the week we moved onto negative numbers (numbers less than zero). It was interesting for the children to think about where they might see/use negative numbers in day to day life. Next week we will be working on our mental addition and subtraction skills.
In English this week we planned our own shape poems. We then used a range of poetic features (onomatopoeias, smilies, metaphors, personification, adjectives, verbs, nouns, adverbs etc.) to write our own volcano shape poems. It was so much fun that we planned another shape poem, this time about something we all love, sweets, cupcakes, lollipops, pets etc. After writing our own shape poem, we performed our poems to the rest of our peers.
Next week we will be looking at a brand new text, 'The Adventures of The Dish and the Spoon' by Mini Grey. Have a go at the homework, look at the front cover and write a prediction about what you think might happen in this text.
During our science lesson this week we learnt about the properties of given materials. We were able to discuss and decide which properties each material had and how we knew that.
In our history lesson we used maps to find out more about how Dagenham has changed. We found out that around 1894 Dagenham was essentially farmland. It was exciting to see how the area changed and moved on in the 1920s with more development with far more houses and parks built. Lastly, the children looked at a map from 1946 where it was clear to see how the area had become further developed.
Please ensure you are reading/hearing your child read every day. Sign your child's reading record at least 3 times a week.
Homework is given out every Friday and is expected to be returned by the following Thursday at the latest.
Spellings are given out Mon/Tues and children are tested every Friday.
Have a good weekend
