Welcome back! We hope you have had an enjoyable and restful break and are ready for an exciting term ahead.
During our maths sessions this week we learnt about Translations. We worked hard drawing our own 6x6 and 9x9 grids, as well as plotting our own co-ordinates to show how a shape moved.
Our topic this term is all about Natural Disasters, including Earthquakes and Volcanoes. The children linked what they knew about Volcanoes (Mount Vesuvius) from last term and began reading more about other natural disasters. In Geography, we learnt about the structure of the Earth and the different layers it is made up of. Click here to find out more.
In our English sessions we discussed the features of an information text. The children used their prior knowledge to compare information texts to fiction texts. Next week we will be continuing learning about summarising pieces of information we have read by making concise bullet point notes. These skills will help us when we are writing our own information texts about Natural Disasters later on in the week.
During our Thursday teacher assembly, the children learnt about the festival of lights, Diwali. We would like to take this time to wish our children/families a happy Diwali. We hope you enjoyed your celebrations.
Reminder: please read with your child everyday and sign the reading record at least 3 times a week. We will be checking. Also, every Friday, the children are given two pieces of homework. This homework can be done in their purple homework books. The homework books/homework should be returned to class by the following Thursday at the latest.
We have had a large number of children not returning their homework books or homework. If you have any questions about homework or are unsure of what your child needs to be doing regarding homework or reading then please talk to your child's teacher. We are more than happy to help.
Thank you for your continued support and we hope you all have a lovely weekend.
