Keble College, Oxford University
On Thursday 23rd May as part of our initiative to raise the aspirations of all the children in our school 40 children from Year 5 spent the day visiting Keble College, Oxford University. The children were divided into three groups and taken on a tour of the college by three Year 2 students. Two of the students from Keble attended Primary Schools in Redbridge and one completed her work experience in Grafton Primary when she was in Year 10.
The children visited the main college building as well as the dining hall, library and student accommodation. During the tour the students from Keble continually reassured the children that it was possible for them to study there if they aimed high enough and applied themselves in the correct way.
All the children were extremely positive about the experience. Zaara Ahmed said, 'I really liked all the green space and how students can study peacefully in their own time'. Mamra Razak really liked the fact that, 'Students can meet regularly with their tutors to discuss anything they do not understand'.
In the autumn term the rest of the current Year 5 will be visiting other universities. We hope to make our trip to Keble College an annual event for the children in our school.
